Kia Recalls Certain Rio Models

Kia Motors is recalling Rio car models from the years 2006 to 2008 due to the potential cracking of the front passenger seat sensor mat, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Administration.

The recall stems from concerns about cracks in the sensor mat posing a risk of injury to child passengers in the front seat. Once cracked, the sensor will not be able to identify if there is a child sitting in the seat, causing the airbag to deploy during a crash as if an adult were the passenger, according to the filing.

Kia is expected to notify owners in July and have dealers replace the sensor mat free of charge.
