Small Business of the Day: Snappy Socks

Who: Corla Rokochy, 39, @corlarokochy

What: Socks that feature a snap to hold them together in the washer and dryer

When: 2010

How: Rokochy, who has worked as a photographer for years, is also a mother of five children, which means multiple loads of laundry every day.

"I was washing about 98 socks a week and coming up with so many baskets of mismatched socks," she recalled. To help reduce waste and spending money on new socks, she came up with the idea of socks that stayed together in the washer and dryer.

She decided to start selling the socks locally in 2010, and the business has taken off. Her socks will be sold nationwide in Target (NYSE:TFT) in April.

Where: Amherst, N.Y.

In her own words: "I sell to a lot of baby stores and boutiques, because smaller socks often get eaten in the dryer."
