Who: Owner Jeff Hardy, 63, @TOPSSoft

What: A management software for condominium and homeowners association managers

When: 1985

How: After selling a property management company, which had grown to 15,000 units, in 1985, Hardy developed a software program to automate the property management process and make it simpler for managers.

"He decided to start marketing the solution software to condo and HOA management companies," Brianna Sturm, sales and marketing coordinator, said.

More than two decades later, the business is still family-owned and operated and prides itself on its hands-on approach to training and customer service.

Where: Clearwater, Fla.

In her own words: "We have 40 employees and are all very close, we enjoy spending time together," Sturm said.
