49ers Super Bowl loss to Chiefs means Pelosi owes fellow Democrat candy

The House speaker had a friendly bet over the outcome of the NFL championship game

The San Francisco 49ers' Super Bowl loss means that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi owes another Democrat loads of candy and other "California delicacies" after losing a friendly bet.

Pelosi and Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., represent the home districts for the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. They announced their wager last week. Cleaver bet a platter of Kansas City BBQ on a Chiefs win, and his team pulled out a victory 31-20.

SUPER BOWL PAY: WHAT CHIEFS PLAYERS EARN FOR CHAMPIONSHIP WIN

"The 49ers have proven to be an exceptional team this season, but they haven't faced Patrick Mahomes, the Legion of Zoom, or the gritty Kansas City defense,” Cleaver said ahead of the game. "After 50 years of waiting, this Sunday we will see the Chiefs bring a Lombardi trophy back home to Chiefs Kingdom. As Kansas Citians celebrate in the streets, I look forward to enjoying some of California's finest Ghiradelli chocolates."

Pelosi's wager included See’s Candies, Ghirardelli Chocolate, almonds and pistachios. See's and Ghiradelli are both headquartered in San Francisco.
