Survey: Millennials More Socially Liberal, Economically Conservative

Millennials are breaking the political mold, according to a recent Reason-Rupe survey.

A survey of 2,000 Americans ages 18 to 29 found that while Millennials espouse socially liberal views, they tend to be more middle-of-the-road when it comes to financial matters.

The survey found that 62% of Millennials describe themselves as socially liberal, while only 27% say they are socially conservative.

However, Millennials aren’t so gung-ho about government spending. Sixty-four percent say cutting government spending by 5% would help the economy, and 59% say cutting taxes would also help.

The Reason-Rupe poll was conducted by YouGov. Participants responded to an online survey from February 28 to March 11, 2014.
