Sen. Sanders fires back at President Trump's State of the Union
Sen. Sanders defends his health care plan
Sen. Bernie Sanders, the independent from Vermont seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, fired back at President Trump Tuesday with his own response to the president’s State of the Union address.
While Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer offered the “official” Democratic response, Sanders took to his Twitch channel to offer his own version and respond to some of Trump’s comments. Without mentioning Sanders by name, Trump claimed he was part of the movement to have a “socialist takeover of our health care system.” Sanders, told the small crowd in Manchester, New Hampshire, “The American people understand that health care is a human right and not a privilege and that we must expand medicare to cover every man, woman and child in this country.”
TRUMP’S MEDICAID REFORM PLAN: 5 THINGS TO KNOW
Sanders and his rival for the Democratic nomination Sen. Elizabeth Sanders have been champions of a “Medicare-for-all” plan though the explanations have been murky on how to pay for it. Last week in an interview with the “CBS Evening News,” when anchor Norah O’Donnell asked how much it would actually cost, Sanders said, “Nobody knows. This is impossible to predict."
Trump also challenged Congress to send him a bill to curb the high price of prescription drugs. Taking note of the president’s claims about the economy, “This is not a booming economy when the pharmaceutical industry continues to rip off the American people.”

Sanders also took a shot at the Trump economy and the president's touting of the stock market. “This is not a booming economy when half of older Americans have no retirement savings and no idea how they will be able to retire,” said Sanders.
Twitch’s platform allows for live comments while an event is played out, and Sanders’ supporters took to the “chat panel” to boost their candidate:
