1. Zale [ZLC]

Signet Jewelers said it will buy competitor Zale for $690 million. The move is sending Zale shares surging some 30%, while Signet is up 6%.

2. Eli Lilly [LLY]

Eli Lilly shares are zipping higher after the pharmaceutical giant said its experimental lung cancer drug improved survival rates in a late-stage trial.

3. Garmin [GRMN]

Garmin unveiled a better-than-expected quarterly profit and also an upbeat 2014 revenue outlook. Shares of the navigation equipment maker, and one of the latest additions to the S&P 500, are soaring 10%.

4. Herbalife [HLF]

Herbalife posted better-than-expected quarterly profits and sales after the closing bell Tuesday. The nutrition company also revealed a full-year outlook that bracketed Wall Street's estimates. The shares are up about 1% in choppy trading.

5. Carlyle Group [CG]

Carlyle Group's fourth-quarter profit spiked by more than 200%, sending shares of the private-equity heavyweight rallying close to 5%.
