1. Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO)
Yahoo shares are zipping higher after China-based e-commerce giant finally unveiled plans to launch its initial public offering in New York. The IPO could be one of the world's biggest. Yahoo owns a 24% stake in company and would stand to benefit handsomely from the offering.
2. Hertz (NYSE:HTZ)
Hertz (NYSE:HTZ) shares are roaring higher on a report from the Financial Times saying the company plans to spin off its equipment rental business.
3. Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK)
Chesapeake Energy (NYSE:CHK) filed paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission for potentially spinning off its oilfield servicing division. The energy company said in February it was exploring strategic alternatives for the unit. The shares are up just north of 1%.
4. Keurig Green Mountain (NASDAQ:GMCR)
Keurig Green Mountain (NASDAQ:GMCR) shares are getting a boost on news it will join the S&P 500 index. Many ETFs and mutual funds track the broad-market barometer, so they will have to buy shares of the stock.
5. JA Solar Holdings (NASDAQ:JASO)
JA Solar Holdings (NASDAQ:JASO) shares are soaring after the company posted its first profits in 10 quarters and forecast higher shipments this year than in 2013.
