White House Drone Belongs To Government Employee Flying It For Fun: Report

The small drone that crashed at the White House complex early Monday morning belonged to a government employee flying it for fun, according to a report by the New York Times. The employee - who did not work for the White House - has told the Secret Service that he was flying the drone at 3 a.m. when he lost control of it and that he did not mean to fly it over the fence of the president's residence. So far, the Secret Service said it believed the man's account, the report said. The Secret Service said in an earlier statement that one of its officers posted on the South Ground of the White House heard and observed a "quad copter" device flying at very low altitude and ultimately crashing on the southeast side of the complex.
