White House: 2 Western Hostages Held By Al Qaeda Killed By Accident
Two Western hostages held by al Qaeda were killed by accident during January raids in the border region straddling Afghanistan and Pakistan, the White House said Thursday. The statement said that Dr. Warren Weinstein, an American, and Giovanni Lo Porto, an Italian national held since 2012, were accidentally killed. No other hostages were present at the time of the operations, according to the White House. President Obama is set to make a statement at 10 a.m. Eastern time from the White House.
