Washington, D.C. Subway System To Shut For 24 Hours, Reports Say

The Washington, D.C. metro system will shut for 24 hours to make emergency checks, according to published reports. The shutdown will take place on Wednesday. A local NBC affiliate says that as many as 1,200 pieces of equipment will need to be checked, following a cable fire early Monday. A press conference is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Eastern.
