Venture-capital Firm Kleiner Wins On All Counts In Ellen Pao Gender-bias Case
Ellen Pao has lost the gender-discrimination suit she brought against venture-capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, according to reports. Jurors in the high-profile Silicon Valley case found against her on all four claims in the suit, including that the firm retaliated against her by firing her. The jury earlier found against Pao on three of four counts, including that gender was not a "substantial reason" why Pao wasn't promoted, but the judge ordered a return to deliberations on the fourth count -- if Pao had been fired because of retaliation -- after polling the jurors independently and realizing they had failed to reach the required majority.
