Variety of fee increases in store for park visitors
The National Park Service has proposed or enacted fee increases that will be used to make a dent in an estimated $11.5 billion backlog of work needed to maintain or fix roads, trails and campgrounds in federal parks and recreation areas. Examples include:
— Increasing the annual pass at Everglades National Park in Florida from $25 to $40 annually.
— Increasing the weekly car pass at Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona from $25 to $30.
— Increasing the price of cave tours between $1 and $5 at Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky.
— Increasing the annual pass at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado from $40 to $60 annually.
— Increasing the weekly car pass at Theodore Roosevelt National Park in western North Dakota from $10 to $20, and eventually to $25.
— Increasing the weekly car pass at Yosemite National Park in California from $20 to $25 or $30, depending on the season.
