US stocks barely budge in early trading; General Electric soars on deal news
U.S. stocks are little changed in early trading as investor look over the latest corporate earnings.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index edged up two points, less than 0.1 percent, to 2,093 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time Friday.
The Dow Jones industrial average was unchanged at 17,961. The Nasdaq composite rose two points to 4,976.
General Electric soared 6 percent, the most in the Dow, after the company said it would sell most of its financial services arm and focus on its industrial businesses.
AngioDynamics sank 10 percent after the medical device maker posted disappointing results in the fiscal third quarter and lowered its expectations for the year.
Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 1.92 percent.
