US raises concerns about some New Jersey Medicaid claims, calls for the state to repay $32M

The federal government says New Jersey should repay it $32 million after an audit found documents were missing in some of the state's submissions for reimbursement.

The federal Department of Health and Human Services' Inspector General's Office released the report Monday. It was first reported by The Record (http://bit.ly/1Unh6Be ).

The report found questionable claims for care provided to homebound elderly and low-income residents.

In a letter included in the report, state officials are challenging parts of the report, saying the sample of claims used for the audit should have been larger than the 100 the government used.

The U.S. found similar problems in New Jersey four years ago, when it called for New Jersey to repay $145 million. The state has not handed over those funds.
