U.S. Treasury Urges Greece, Europe To Find 'constructive Way Forward'
The U.S. Treasury again Thursday urged Greece and its international creditors to find a constructive way to extend its bailout package. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew and his team have held regular talks with all the parties, including German officials, a senior U.S. Treasury official said. "Our message has uniformly been that the Europeans have the capacity to handle these challenges, but it is going to require a constructive and pragmatic way forward" with compromise from both sides, the official said. As an end-of-the-month deadline approaches, the emphasis on the issue is increasing, the official said. The U.S. will be watching closely the talks scheduled between the Eurogroup, the group of 19 eurozone finance ministers who are negotiating with Greece.
