U.S. Stocks Sell Off Into Close To End Day, Week And Month Lower
U.S. stocks ended Friday's choppy trading session with significant losses, as selling on Wall Street accelerated dramatically in the final hour. The main indexes ended the month with their biggest declines since last January. Investors grappled with a disappointing GDP report and mixed earnings news. A lower-than-expected economic growth number resulted in a flight to quality, with investors flocking into havens such as Treasurys and gold and unloading equities. The S&P 500 closed down 26.21 points, or 1.3%, at 1,995.04. The benchmark index ended the month with a loss of 3.1%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 250.75 points, or 1.4%, to 17,166.10. The Nasdaq Composite ended the day down 48.17 points, or 1%, at 4,635.24.
