U.S. Stocks Open Lower, Set For Weekly Losses

U.S. stocks opened lower on Friday and the main indexes looked set to finish the turbulent week with losses for the third week in a row. Investors digested weaker-than-expected data on producer prices, which showed a surprise drop. The consumer sentiment index is due shortly after the market open. The S&P 500 opened 8 points, or 0.4%, lower at 2,058.50. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 82 points, or 0.5%, to 17,812.12. The Nasdaq Composite began the day down 12 points, or 0.2%, at 4,881.05.
