U.S. Stocks Open Lower, Set For Weekly Losses

NEW YORK – U.S. stocks opened lower on Friday and the main indexes looked set to finish the turbulent week with losses for the third week in a row. Investors digested weaker-than-expected data on producer prices, which showed a surprise drop. The consumer sentiment index is due shortly after the market open. The S&P 500 opened 8 points, or 0.4%, lower at 2,058.50. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 82 points, or 0.5%, to 17,812.12. The Nasdaq Composite began the day down 12 points, or 0.2%, at 4,881.05.
