U.S. Stocks Open Lower; Energy Continues Slide

The U.S. stock market opened slightly lower on Tuesday as EU's downgrade of domestic growth as well as plunging oil prices weighed on sentiment. Energy and materials sectors continued their selloff, dragging the main benchmark lower. The S&P 500 opened 4 points, or 0.2%, lower at 2,013.65. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 17 points, or 0.1%, to 17,351.66. The Nasdaq Composite began the day down 17 points, or 0.4%, at 4,622.
