U.S. Stocks Open Lower As Fed Decision Looms

U.S. stocks opened lower ahead of the FOMC decision on Wednesday afternoon as investors grew nervous about whether the Fed will strike the right balance in the statement by removing the word 'patient' and paving the way for its first rate hike in nearly a decade. The S&P 500 opened 6 points or 0.3%, lower at 2,068. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 79 points, or 0.4%, to 17,770. The Nasdaq Composie began the day down 14 points, or 0.3%, at 4,923.
