U.S. Stocks Open Higher, On Track To Book Weekly Gains

U.S. stocks opened slightly higher on Friday as a surge in General Electric Company shares after its restructuring news helped lift the main benchmarks. The industrial conglomerate announced it would sell the bulk of GE Capital and spend $50 billion to buy back shares. The main benchmarks were on track to book weekly gains. The S&P 500 opened up 4 points, or 0.2%, at 2,094.74. The Dow Jones Industrial Average added 11 points, or 0.1%, to 17,963.03. The Nasdaq Composite began the session up 5 points, or 0.1%, to 4,980.10.
