U.S. Stocks Close Higher; Nasdaq, Russell 2000 At Record
The Russell 2000 and the Nasdaq Composite closed at record levels on Monday, while the main benchmarks closed higher. Investors appeared to react positively to headline news that Greece and its lenders may reach a deal to avert a default. The Nasdaq Composite jumped 36.97 points, or 0.7% to 5,153.97, the highest level ever. Similarly, the Russell 2000 closed at a record, gaining 8 points, or 0.6%, to 1,292.69, according to preliminary data. The S&P 500 closed 12.86 points, or 0.6%, higher at 2,122.85, only several points below its all-time high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 103.83 points, or 0.6%, to 18,119.78.
