U.S. Stocks Close Higher As Election Results Loom
U.S. stocks on Tuesday closed modestly higher, extending gains scored in the previous day's rally, as investors waited for results of the closely watched presidential election. Over the two-day rally, the S&P 500 nearly made up ground lost over the previous nine consecutive losing days. The S&P 500 closed 8.05 points, or 0.4%, higher at 2,139.57. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 72.90 points, or 0.4%, to 18,332.50. The Nasdaq Composite ended the session up 27.32 points, or 0.5%, at 5,193.49.
