U.S. Stocks Close Fractionally Higher On Mixed Economic Data

U.S. stocks closed fractionally higher Wednesday after mixed data showed modest-at-best growth in the economy. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 2.47 points to close at 17,789.67. The S&P 500 Index advanced 2.37 points, or 0.1%, to finish at 2,099.33, with telecoms and consumer discretionary as the only declining sectors. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 4.20 points, or 0.1%, to close at 4,952.25.
