Tropical Storm Ana Threatens Carolinas

Weeks before the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, Ana has grown into a tropical storm and threatens to hit the Carolinas with drenching rain and dangerous surf on Mother's Day, according to reports. Saturday morning, Ana was reported 115 miles southeast of Myrtle Beach, S.C.,with top sustained winds of 60 mph,moving north-northwest at 3 mph. Ana is expected to come ashore early Sunday near the North Carolina-South Carolina border, AccuWeather reported. Ana is the earliest storm to form in the Atlantic since another storm also named Ana emerged in 2003, the Associated Press reported. The Atlantic season officially runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.
