Toyota to revamp America's top-selling car amid boom in SUVs

Toyota will reveal a new version of America's top-selling car at the Detroit auto show next month.

The company gave few details about the revamped Toyota Camry. Typically Toyota redesigns the interior, exterior and suspension, but it also has added new engines and transmissions.

The Camry was last redesigned for the 2013 model year.

The 2018 Camry will come out next summer. Sales of cars have been slumping as consumers take advantage of cheap gasoline and buy SUVs and trucks. Experts are not expecting gas prices to rise significantly anytime soon.

Toyota is hoping the new version will boost Camry sales, which are down 9.4 percent through November. But they concede the car may soon be outsold by the RAV4 SUV.
