Tony Award from 'Sound of Music' fetches a lot of do-re-mi at auction, sells for $43,750

A Tony Award from the original Broadway production of "The Sound of Music" has fetched a lot of do-re-mi at auction.

Mary Martin's Tony for her role as Maria von Trapp in the 1959-60 staging of the beloved musical sold for $43,750.

Boston-based RR Auction says the prize for the late actress' starring role was auctioned off Thursday in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The identity of the buyer was not disclosed.

RR Auction executive vice president Bobby Livingston calls the Tony "an iconic piece honoring one of the most famous musicals of all time."

The Tony originally was acquired from the estate of Martin's son, actor Larry Hagman.

Martin died in 1990 at 76.
