Toledo city council gives go-ahead to health care company's plan to move jobs downtown

Toledo City Council has given a health care company the go-ahead to move hundreds of jobs to a downtown waterfront campus that would include a renovated steam plant.

Toledo-based ProMedica has said that the number of jobs the company plans to move could grow to as many 2,500.

The Blade reports (http://bit.ly/1yHtyVJ ) that council voted 11-1 Tuesday to authorize a memorandum of understanding with the company that includes conveying part of a park for a parking garage.

The deal also covers real-estate and income-tax abatements, and infrastructure improvements.

Opponents of the agreement are unhappy about losing part of the park to a garage.

ProMedica has 12 hospitals, about 300 health care facilities, about 15,000 employees and about 1,900 doctors.
