Times-Shamrock sells Virgin Islands Daily News to islands-based businessman

Times-Shamrock Communications has sold The Virgin Islands Daily News and its affiliated publications to a businessman based on the islands.

The family-owned company says the sale to Archie Nahigian, originally from California, closed on Tuesday. Terms were not disclosed.

Times-Shamrock owns The Times-Tribune in Scranton and five other daily newspapers in northeastern Pennsylvania.

It announced in 2013 it intended to divest itself of several of its out-of-state publications. As part of that initiative, it has also sold a daily in Petersburg, Virginia, and alternative newspapers in five other cities.
