A local New Jersey Republican group is calling on a GOP candidate to end his campaign after it reviewed reports that he had called for the rape of a Washington-based reporter for The Daily Beast in a Facebook post.

Bob Waller, chairman of the West Deptford Republican Party Committee, said Tuesday that it found no evidence that Mike Krawitz's account was hacked and it called the comments "repulsive."

The comments said: "I. Hope. Somebody. Rapes. You. Today. :)."

Krawitz is running for the West Deptford committee. He tells The Philadelphia Inquirer his account must have been hacked.

But journalist Olivia Nuzzi says she has been harassed on social media by Krawitz since December 2015.

Waller says there's no "reasonable reason" to believe Krawitz was hacked.

There was no answer at a phone listing for Krawitz.

The Facebook page of a New Jersey Republican running for local office has called for the rape of a Washington-based reporter for The Daily Beast.

Mike Krawitz is running for the West Deptford committee. He tells The Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/2bQj8dI) that he was hacked and that he didn't make the comment Monday on journalist Olivia Nuzzi's Facebook account.

But Nuzzi says she has been harassed on social media by Krawitz since December 2015. The West Deptford GOP condemned the comments and mistakenly called for Twitter to investigate, even though the posts were made on Facebook.

The comments said: "I. Hope. Somebody. Rapes. You. Today. :)." The account also posted a comment that said: "Hope. You. Get. Raped. By. A. Syrian. Refugee. :)."

The comments came after Nuzzi promoted an article about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's ex-wife Marla Maples.

The Facebook pages for Krawitz and the West Deptford GOP were both down Tuesday.
