Texas Jury Declines To Indict In Sandra Bland Death: Reports
A grand jury has decided no one at a Texas sheriffs' office will be indicted over the July death of Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old black woman who was found hanging in a jail cell three days after her arrest, according to news reports late Monday. A special prosecutor said the grand jury hasn't decided whether Brian T. Encinia, a trooper who arrested Bland after an apparent traffic stop, will face charges. The grand jury will reconvene Jan. 6, reports said. Bland's death was ruled a suicide, a finding disputed by the Chicago-area woman's family. A police dashboard-camera video showing Bland being pulled over went viral in July.
