Shares of Tesla Motors Inc. opened higher, but quickly turned lower ahead of earnings Wednesday. The electric car maker is scheduled to release third-quarter results after the close. Analysts polled by FactSet expect Tesla to report a loss of 1 cent, versus a gain of 12 cents in the same period a year ago. Earlier Wednesday, Tesla received Europe's top safety rating for its Model S sedan. The car has had the top rating from U.S. traffic safety officials.
