The maker of controls for electric motors will buy a power transmissions unit from Emerson Electric Co. for about $1.4 billion.

The pet supplies retailer said that is being sold to a group of investors led by buyout firm BC Partners for $8.7 billion.

Riverbed Technology Inc., up $1.57 to $20.31
