Stock indexes are little changed in midday trading; AT&T gains, while PulteGroup sinks

U.S. stocks are little changed in midday trading as companies report mixed earnings.

AT&T gained 3 percent Thursday after the company said it expects bigger savings from its proposed purchase of satellite TV company DirecTV.

PulteGroup sank 8 percent after reporting income that was well below what analysts were expecting. Other homebuilder stocks also fell.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was essentially unchanged at 2,107 as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern time.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 19 points, or 0.1 percent, at 18,018. The Nasdaq composite was down a fraction at 5,034.

The price of crude oil rose $1.98 to $58.10 a barrel in New York.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 1.96 percent.
