Splunk Shares Rise 5% After Results Top Forecasts

Splunk Inc. on Thursday reported a fiscal third-quarter loss of $48.6 million, or 40 cents a share, on revenue of $116 million. During the year-ago period, the data-intelligence software company lost $16.6 million, or 16 cents a share, on $78.6 million in sales. Excluding one-time items, Splunk earned 2 cents a share. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had forecast Splunk to earn a penny a share on $107.2 million in revenue. Splunk also estimates its fourth-quarter revenue will be in a range of $135 million to $137 million, while analysts had previously forecast the company to report sales of $133.3 million for the quarter. Splunk shares rose more than 5% in after-hours trading following the release of the company's results.
