Slot machine gambling down at Maine's 2 casinos, but they give out $1B in winnings combined

Slot machine gambling was down $15 million at the Oxford Casino in 2014 while the Hollywood Casino in Bangor saw a $10 million drop, but the state's top gambling regulator says he's not surprised and both casinos are making money.

Figures from the Maine Gambling Control Board's annual report show players wagered $662 million at Oxford and $459.6 million at Hollywood on slot machines last year. That's down year-over-year from $677.7 million and nearly $469 million, respectively.

Hollywood Casino returned $413 million to players, paid roughly $22 million in taxes and kept $24.6 million.

Oxford Casino gave out $604.6 million in winnings, paid roughly $29 million in taxes and kept $29 million.

Board Executive Director Patrick Fleming tells the Sun Journal (http://bit.ly/1ExgWPo ) that "the novelty is kind of wearing off."
