Security agents find loaded gun in carry-on at Newark Liberty airport; New York man charged
Police say a loaded gun was found in a New York man's carry-on bag as he prepared to board a flight at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Joe Pentangelo with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police says 40-year-old Woodstock resident Gregory Soltanoff was charged Sunday with unlawful possession of a handgun and hollow-point bullets. Soltanoff was ticketed to fly to Syracuse, New York.
Pentangelo says Transportation Security Administration officers found the .32 caliber firearm in the bag after it was screened. It was loaded with six bullets. The gun was detected by a TSA officer who was monitoring an X-ray machine.
TSA officers contacted police, and Soltanoff was arrested. He was released later Sunday.
Airport operations weren't affected.
A telephone call to Soltanoff's house rang unanswered Monday.
