Roof partly collapses on New York City car dealership, killing 1 person; 3 others escape

Authorities say a New York City car dealership's concrete roof partially collapsed, killing one person who was trapped under the rubble.

It happened at around 8:15 a.m. Friday at a Ford dealership on a service road off Staten Island's Shore Expressway.

Fire Department Deputy Chief Pete Leicht tells reporters that four workers were inside and three managed to escape on their own. But Leicht says man was caught under the debris.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead shortly afterward. Authorities say they believe the man was a construction worker involved in a project at the dealership.

A message left for a manager at the dealership wasn't immediately returned.

The city Buildings Department is responding to the collapse but has no immediate information.
