Repairs on schedule, Amtrak, NJ Transit plan normal service
The three major railroads that use New York's Penn Station say they will resume regular train service on Sept. 5 after eight weeks of major repairs required service cutbacks.
Amtrak, New Jersey Transit and the Long Island Rail Road announced Thursday they will end the service changes that have affected hundreds of thousands of commuters in the New York region since July 10.
Amtrak says the repair project is being completed on schedule.
Two derailments and other problems in the spring prompted Amtrak to speed up the schedule for the repairs, which initially were to be completed over a few years.
