Pulitzer Prizes set to honor journalism's best, with magazines eligible for 1st time

The Pulitzer Prizes are set to honor top journalism from 2014, with magazines getting their first chance at some of the awards.

The prizes are being announced Monday afternoon at Columbia University.

The contest was broadened this year to allow many online and print magazines to enter the investigative reporting and feature writing categories. Magazines previously were generally ineligible, although some digital outlets that produce long-form journalism have entered and won before.

This year, the prize board also started accepting work by partnerships between eligible and otherwise non-eligible organizations.

Considered one of American journalism's most prestigious awards, the Pulitzers recognize various categories of reporting, photography and opinion writing, as well as editorial cartooning.

The prizes also honor drama, music and fiction and non-fiction books.
