Princeton becomes 5th New Jersey town to ban tobacco sales to those under 21

Princeton has become the fifth New Jersey town to ban tobacco sales to customers under 21.

The town's health board unanimously adopted the ordinance.

Board member George DiFerdinando tells The Times of Trenton (http://bit.ly/1G69Ty7 ) increasing the purchase age has minimal impact on those who are smoking, but it puts the legal purchase outside the social circle of those who initiate it.

The state age to purchase tobacco is 19.

Princeton's ordinance will take effect in three weeks.

Bogota, Englewood, Sayreville and Teaneck also ban tobacco sales to those 21 and older.
