Police: Grand Forks Wal-mart evacuated after phone threat; nothing found

A Grand Forks Wal-mart store was evacuated and searched after receiving a telephone threat, but police say nothing was found.

Police Lt. Bill Macki said a Wal-mart employee received a call Sunday evening that a man had a weapon and hostages in the store. The caller demanded money and said a hostage could be harmed.

A SWAT team was sent to the store and about 150 shoppers and employees evacuated. Police searched the store.

"It did not appear that there was a threat at the store," Macki said. Police have now given the all clear, he said.

The incident was just weeks after a U.S. airman opened fire at the same store on May 26, killing one worker and injuring a second employee before killing himself.
