Police give all clear at Austin airport after evacuation

Police have given the all clear and allowed travelers to return to the baggage claim area of the airport in Austin after it was evacuated when a suspicious package was found.

Austin police spokeswoman Lisa Cortinas says they were alerted to the suspicious package at about 10:40 a.m. and sent out the bomb squad to check it out. She said they gave the all clear at about 12:45 p.m. She did not have information on what the package turned out to be.

Derick Hackett, Austin Department of Aviation spokesman, says the evacuated baggage claim area is on the lower level of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. He said flights weren't affected by the evacuation.
