Pittsburgh museum says animal trophies donated by doctor who killed lion were legally obtained

A Pittsburgh museum says four animal trophies donated by a doctor accused of illegally hunting a lion in Zimbabwe were legally obtained by him.

The Carnegie Museum of Natural History reviewed the donations of two alligator specimens, one crocodile and one ostrich after Zimbabwe officials over the weekend accused Dr. Jan Seski, of Murrysville, of illegally killing a lion with a bow and arrow in April.

Seski hasn't been criminally charged. He denies the lion hunt was illegal and says it happened in July.

The museum issued a statement Thursday saying "specimens generously donated by Dr. Jan Seski were obtained in manners that adhere to U.S. and international laws and conventions."

Museum officials had said they planned to return the animal specimens to Seski if they were obtained illegally.
