Obama Nominating Law Professor, Ex-Senate Aide To SEC

President Barack Obama nominated a Democrat and a Republican to fill two open slots at the Securities and Exchange Commission. Lisa Fairfax, a George Washington University Law School professor and an expert on shareholder activism, is nominated to get the Democratic seat on the five-person commission. Hester Peirce, a George Mason professor and formerly an aide on the Senate Banking Committee, will get the Republican slot. She also has worked at the SEC between 2000 and 2008. If confirmed, four of the five SEC commissioners will be women.
