No radio communication for final 2 hours from plane that crashed into ocean off New Jersey

Authorities say there was no radio communication from a single-engine plane that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off New Jersey for the final two hours of the flight.

National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Eric Weiss says Friday that the investigation into what happened to the Mooney M20 that was flying from Gaylord, Michigan, to Atlantic City International Airport is ongoing.

The Coast Guard is continuing the search for the 68-year-old pilot. The plane crashed Thursday about 7 miles off the coast of Atlantic City.

Flight tracking software shows the plane traveling past the airport at around 20,000 feet. The plane began quickly descending, going from a drop rate of 1,113 feet per minute to 5,438 feet per minute over the course of two minutes while heading out to sea.
