New York research laboratory and hospital network unite in effort to battle cancer
A major research laboratory is teaming with one of Long Island's top medical facilities in the fight against cancer.
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and the North Shore-LIJ Health System are announcing a $120 million joint venture on Thursday. It's aimed at accelerating cancer research, diagnosis and treatment.
Some of the money will be used to develop a new clinical cancer research unit at the North Shore-LIJ Cancer Institute's headquarters in Lake Success, New York.
It will work on new cancer therapies, and recruit and train more clinician-scientists in oncology.
The Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is a not-for-profit independent research and education institution.
The North Shore-LIJ Cancer Institute treats millions of patients annually at 19 hospitals and more than 400 physician practices in the metropolitan area.
