New York gets $1.7 million in settlement with Pfizer; part of multi-state case

New York is getting $1.7 million as its share of a $35 million multi-state settlement with pharmaceutical giant Pfizer Inc. over the marketing of the drug Rapamune.

New York is among 42 states that sued Pfizer subsidiary Wyeth for improper marketing and promotion of the drug.

New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says Wyeth promoted the immunosuppressive drug for uses that were not FDA approved.

The drug is approved to prevent the body's immune system from rejecting a transplanted kidney. Schneiderman says Wyeth improperly promoted Rapamune for liver, heart and lung transplants.

The company didn't admit any wrongdoing or liability in the settlement.
