NCAA Sets Syracuse Penalties Over Athletics Program
The NCAA announced a string of penalities for Syracuse University Friday after concluding that the university "did not control and monitor its athletics programs" for a decade. The penalties listed in a 94-page decision include five years of probation, a suspension for the men's basketball coach, Jim Boeheim, covering the first nine conference games next season and the vacation of victories over five basketball seasons and three football seasons in which ineligible athletes participated. It also reduced the number of scholarships the university can offer. Syracuse last month announced a self-imposed ban on post-season play this year by the men's basketball team.
