Motorola Solutions beats 4Q earnings and revenue expectations

Motorola Solutions Inc. (MSI) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $201 million.

The Schaumburg, Illinois-based company said it had net income of 87 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $1.25 per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.15 per share.

The communications equipment maker posted revenue of $1.82 billion in the period, also topping Street forecasts. Analysts expected $1.77 billion, according to Zacks.

For the year, the company reported profit of $1.3 billion, or $5.29 per share. Revenue was reported as $5.88 billion.

For the current quarter ending in March, Motorola expects its per-share earnings to range from 22 cents to 27 cents.

The company expects full-year earnings in the range of $3.15 to $3.35 per share.

Motorola shares have fallen almost 5 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has stayed nearly flat. The stock has increased 2 percent in the last 12 months.
